Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chopped walnuts if using.
  6. Peel and slice the pears, then gently fold them into the batter.
