  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces white chocolate, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in vanilla.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet alternately with buttermilk.
  6. Fold in melted dark chocolate until well combined.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  8. Allow cake to cool completely before assembling the mousse layers.
  9. Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
  10. Fold in melted white chocolate gently.
  11. Layer mousse on top of cooled cake as desired and refrigerate until set.

Notes

  • Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For best results, refrigerate overnight before serving.
