This is an easy and delicious recipe for making Kentucky Fried Chicken at home, inspired by Laura Ashley.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Begin by soaking the chicken in buttermilk for at least 2 hours, or overnight for better flavor.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Coat the marinated chicken pieces in the flour mixture until fully covered.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  5. Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 15-20 minutes per side.
  6. Remove from heat and let drain on paper towels.

Notes

  • For extra crispy chicken, double dip the chicken in buttermilk and flour.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough, testing with a small piece of bread; it should brown in about 60 seconds.
