Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ cup water
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 5 large egg whites
  • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the cake flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the water, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.
  7. Pour the batter into an ungreased pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool completely before serving.
