Experience the irresistible sweetness of baklava, a classic dessert that features layers of flaky pastry, chopped nuts, and honey syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound phyllo dough
  • 2 cups mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Layer half of the phyllo dough in a greased baking pan, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  3. Chop the mixed nuts and combine with cinnamon, then spread evenly over the phyllo layers.
  4. Top with the remaining phyllo dough, again brushing each layer with butter.
  5. Bake for about 50 minutes until golden brown.
  6. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla, and bring to a boil; simmer for about 10 minutes.
  7. Pour the syrup over the warm baklava after pulling it out of the oven.
  8. Allow to cool and set before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh phyllo dough.
  • Let the baklava soak in syrup for several hours or overnight for enhanced flavor.
