- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 6 to 8 apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Roll out half of the dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the bottom crust in the pie plate.
- In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture.
- Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the apples. Seal and flute the edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg with the cinnamon.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat.
